Spring Rock-R Rendezvous
March 6, 2010
“Wow! The Best Party Ever!” — Rock-R Lisa
We closed the tasting room at 5pm and hurried to finishing party prep by R-6pm start time!
R-Vangelist Bill and Mistress of Ceremonies Lisa guided the parking and signed-up Rock-Rs for contests as they arrived, while Lori and Bill from Down Home Catering got the BBQ fired-up, and Gina, Jessee, Chelsea and Amy welcomed partiers.
Then real ROCK-Rs began showing up ready to party: Psyched to light it up more than ever by dancing, singing & competing in Karaoke & Guitar Hero and reveling in their abandon.
Good foods, good wines, good friends, good times!
Approximately 100 Rock-Rs and Groupies joined in the fun… Wish you were here?
It was a beautiful Spring evening enhanced by the warmth and glow of blazing firepits (fed by Danny) with everyone in good spirits and ready with good appetites, so tri-tip, chicken and salads were served.
Almost immediately, Rock-Rs shouted for the karaoke contest to get underway. Of course, we were more than happy to oblige! DJ Jordan got on it!
Stiff competition was softened by fun song choices and a very supportive audience. The winner got to select a prize from an impressive array of over 20 rockin’ movie DVDs.
We suspect that future ROCK-Rs are among us even now! 🙂
Next up was the Guitar Hero contest…and again talent and plain old fun were all around! The winner also got their choice of rock-n-roll DVD movie.
Meanwhile, many folks took that opportunity to chill-lax by the firepits…
…spending a bit of time to focus on wine and friends, both old and new.
Batteries and bellies refilled, it was time to head inside to vote for the Hottest Rock-R Chick and Coolest Rock-R Dude.
The Rock-R outfits were excellently eclectic and original…
… but immediately both Dangerous Dean and Punk Dog were eliminated from consideration.
Winners were chosen by applause, and it was very close with several re-votes needed. Ultimately, a “Dirty Rock-R Boy” and a lovely gal who LOVES dirty Rock-R boys each won and selected rockin’ DVD movies as their prizes.
In a very gracious gesture and demonstration of “totally bitchin'” rock attitude, runner-up mojo master “Gambit” offered a Rock-R salute to the Coolest Dude.
Then we did 3 quick raffles to promoted new items and upcoming events:
For the April 2, 2011, AHA “Union Road Wine Trail Heart Walk” we give away a CPR training kit; we then gave away a copy of a new picture- and info-packed book on Paso Robles Wine Terroir; and finally we raffled off The Complete Ray Charles CD collection. Congrats to R-3 lucky winners!
By then, everyone was itchin’ to dance and DJ Jordan kicked that shit up another notch…
“You guys F^&#%$’ ROCK! This party is awesome!”
— Rock-R Darrell (and echoed throughout the night by a dozen other partiers)
It was getting pretty late, so we finally awarded the OVERALL ROCK-R of the NIGHT prize. A $75 Hand-Bottled, Waxed-Top Magnum of R-2008 Satisfaction to Dynamic Darrel (shown wearing a kilt and sportin’ a Rockin’ R tattoo in various pix on this page) because he has an awesome Rock-R attitude… Congrats Darrel!
Of course, sooner or later Dean gets his hands on the microphone, and after encouraging Rockin’ R’s traditional “all skate” group rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” the hard rock begins and the singing and dancing goes completely off-the-hook!
“Turn that %^*#%#$ music down!!!!”
— The Neighbor we failed to invite, and then ignored… hehehe, sorry.
We downshifted at midnight and said ‘good night’ to the hardy souls who had rocked hard for 6 hours (you know who you are) and were left with big hugs and smiles. Designated drivers, taxi cabs, RVs and camping on the winery land meant a safe send-off after a wonderful event enjoyed by Rock-Rs of all ages!
From R-winery to all of R-Fans, THANK YOU for making this event such a fantastic success!
