Old World Cab – that’s out of this world!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Last night, we opened a 2002 Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon that rocked! It is one of Dean’s earlier hobby wines that was foot-stomped and made in an old world style. The medium-full bodied wine has soft tannins, ripe fruit and balanced herbal notes.

For sake of comparison, we also opened a 2012 King Crimson Cabernet. It has vanilla aromas, bright fruit and medium tannins.

Both wines paired perfectly with grilled rib-eye steaks topped with blue cheese.

Dean makes wines with definite aging potential, yet drink nicely upon release.

R-wine maker clearly knew what he was doing before launching the Rockin’ R brand.

Vintage Paso ~ Zinfandel Festival

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Today is St. Patrick’s Day. A day commonly associated with leprechauns, corned beef and cabbage, and wearing green while heading to the local pub for a pint.

However, today also marks the beginning of Vintage Paso ~ Zinfandel Festival. Wine lovers will attend the three day event to taste the region’s first wine, Zinfandel.

The Paso Robles AVA produces Zinfandel, also known as Primitivo, that tends to be soft and round. The primary flavors of Zinfandel are jam with blueberry, black pepper, cherry and plum notes. When you taste Zinfandel, the jammy fruitiness is often followed by spice or a tobacco-like smoky finish. Zinfandel pairs well with BBQ foods and Italian cuisine.

Rockin’ R will be pouring RUXperienced and Nirvana, which are 100% Zinfandel, as well as our Super-Roblan red blends. Come on out to R-tasting room and enjoy R-wines paired with cheeses and various BBQ  goodies.
